My Life Principles V1.3 Lessons

This is something I learnt today listening to a Tony Robbin audio.

Humans have 6 needs ..

1. Certainty This is the need for security, comfort and consistency

2. Uncertainty This is need for variety, challenges,

3. Significance The need to feel important, needed, wanted and worthy of love

4. Love and Connection The need for feeling connected with and loved by other human beings.

5. Growth The need for constant development emotionally, intellectually and spiritually

6. Contribution Giving beyond ourselves and giving to others

Anytime at least 3 needs are met humans get addicted to it.

My Life Principles V1.2 Lessons

One thing I learnt a very hard way is something which appears at a certain point of time could be exactly different if you consider a larger time frame. Also something which is normally perceived pleasurable could have very painful impact in long run.

For example early in my IT career I did a project on a CRM project implementation in Chennai and that project was supposed to last only few months and at that point of time I was a single and based out of Kolkata and  and Chennai is a relocation with company paid accommodation , travel expense and food expenses. Also opportunity to see a new place and it had a opportunity to travel to customer location at Miami at the end of the project which seemed very enticing. But as soon as I landed over in Chennai I could very soon realize the project is already in a black hole and anything but pleasurable. We had to do very long hours and quite a few time I slept at office so that I can wake up and work the next day. No holidays and not even off on Sundays. I was a young professional and had never exposed to this type of situation earlier. At the end of the first month I contemplated to quit working in IT and peruse a civil service job which was my parents ultimate dream. But somehow I stuck to almost the very end before I had to travel back to my home town for a family emergency. This was a experience which was very painful but in retrospect I can see the amount of learning I had i those few months I would not even get in years.

Pain or failure with reflection is growth! - Ray Dalio

Sometimes we do get very myopic and focus on too short term and forget the long term life purpose. We try to do the daily activities without reflecting the bigger picture like bricklayer laying bricks without any knowledge of the wall that is being built or the building the wall will be part of. So it is very prudent to stop and reflect from time to time and imagine the big picture.

One thing which became very clear after going through a lot of challenges is nothing stays the same any good or bad changes as time passes. Or at least the interpretation of the situation changes as humans are biological machines meant for adoption. What that really mean that life will through situations at us or scenarios at us and our only job is to get some experience from the situation and add to our collection. If we do not learn or adopt the same situation will repeat over and over  until we learn and get the experience which it supposed to teach us.

We feel anything good or bad based on our prior experience as that is how we survived but to really gain experience we have to treat it as a scenario with as much indifference as possible. That will isolate us from identifying the situation through a existing lens and give lot of additional perspective which was right there but ignored.

Never focus on outcome. Just visualize the outcome without any slight though about any steps needed for the outcome. Focus on process and adjust the process for the outcome. There is a beautiful verse in Bhagvat Gita
Karmanye vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana,
Ma Karmaphalaheturbhurma Te Sangostvakarmani

Now let's begin  our main section Swami Vivekananda's commentaries on the verse.
Swamji told—
  • Be beyond the common worldly motives. "To work you have the right, but not to the fruits thereof." Man can train himself to know and to practice that, says the Karma-Yogi. When the idea of doing good becomes a part of his very being, then he will not seek for any motive outside. Let us do good because it is good to do good; he who does good work even in order to get to heaven binds himself down, says the Karma-Yogi. Any work that is done with any the least selfish motive, instead of making us free, forges one more chain for our feet.[Source]

One thing I realized after multiple experience anything that you do for the sake of doing it or even any wish you make for the good of the things no matter if it becomes or helps the self becomes and turns out to be reality as if like a act of god. So taking the self out of things makes us directing connected to the source energy or higher power or God which ever way we refer it.

1.life lessons
2. Setbacks
3. Decisions which defined destiny
4. Process that helps to make the tough decisions
5. Routines which help with improvment of all aspects of life
6. The traps of additions
7. Some of my philosophies like what is the true meaning - Its not retiring rich thats for sure
8. Enjoying every step and enjoying the journey

The catch 22 we are in

Today while I was doing my morning routine this I realized a very core paradox in life. We strive work hard and achieve things and to make progress. The way to do that is very simple we need to abstain from things which is more like a addiction like killing time , watching a movie or drink beers and focus on something which is much more growth related thing like exercising and meditating but the real growth comes from while doing things we we may not like to do. Like making more push ups and meditating for longer than we normally do or make a new goal and work towards to achieve the goal and once we achieve that we look for the satisfaction we get at the end of the goal just to do anything which we like to do which is again a addiction. And as soon as we give in to the addiction we lose very quickly the drive which propelled us to the goal itself. I believe some people call it a plateau and its not easy to break the plateau as the very cyclic nature of  it.

The only way to beat this vicious cycle is to make growth the only goal. Any material goal will get us back towards the addiction and we will be stuck in a plateau.

First step towards this is to identify what we like to do if you do not have to do anything at all. It does not necessarily have to sound like sipping a glass of wine or binge watching Netflix. But it can be as benign as just not getting from your bed in time , not doing the chores and watching some nonsense cat video.

So the only way to get out of this cycle of plateau in making is set the goal of growth it-self on any endeavor. Like if you are writing a book then your goal could be write 10 words more than you did last time in the same amount of time. Or replying to all emails 1% faster than you did yesterday and when you see its not moving forward find new tools or ways to improve from others and take best of them.

In my childhood days I had a very bad handwriting and everyone would tell me to improve it but no one told how so I kept repeating the same handwriting for almost in my high school. Then suddenly I way one friend of mine write his name which starts with A (Amrit) in a very nice hand written letter A. And I tried and failed to replicate that A before asking him for help and he taught that A and I repeated that A and I could do it even better after quite some attempts. Now that became a obsession of mine and I will repeat any nicely written letter anywhere I see and just in few months my hand writing became so much better than I could not even recognize my old hand writing in the old days.

The second thing we have to make sure the growth goal has to be measurable and we need to set a periodic weekly/monthly/daily review cycle to ensure we are actually growing as planned.

Wave hypothesis in trading

1. At any point of time there is always two waves in play... positive and negative
2. The magnitude of the one wave can trump in a trending market for example if a bigger wave comes as positive then it will trump the negative side if the negative wave is smaller time frame
3. Based on the difference between wave the price action moves in one direction or the other or remains same if both waves are in similar magnitude
4. The biggest wave in one direction at the starting point  of the move remains in force until a bigger in wave in the opposite direction topples the original wave
5. A wave size is not confirmed if it did not meet its ST target in 20 time period immediately following it. It tells that there is a bigger wave in motion in the opposite direction.
6. Waves can have a bigger wave in positive direction but smaller wave in negative direction. This will make the price action still move in the bigger wave direction in a longer trend
7. The indicators normally hit the target in the direction of the major trend and normally miss target in the direction of the

Rules :
Do not make any decision when ST is falling or climbing. Wait for a stable ST for 2-3 bars before action

Multi indicators with symmetry are normally correct ones ... They will have two bars on side with on on center or just two bars on side,,,

Life is about giving Joy a taking pain - 8 (Getting to the meaning of life)

We always think if we get something or some one or some where or if the weather is in certain way or of I get enough money then I would be happy. But after deep thought of the subjects that is most likely not true. Happiness is probably something which is a chemical composition which happens inside out brain and which we synthesize our self. That is why people on drugs or alcohol get happy as soon as they get that substance , but either 2 things happens very quickly after inducing happiness with a substance. Like any other substance which body creates the chemical composition changes or body do not feel the same way with the same amount of the chemicals and from there it is a down ward spiral. And because they get the happiness for a very small amount of time with out any effort or pain they try to follow the same path the next time. That makes them sucked into the spiraling black hole of misery and non contribution to society.

This is a big paradox. Only way we can synthesize the petrochemicals that gets us happy is actually progress and growth. As body is a adaptability engine as soon as body gets the same feeling it increases the bar. That is why we grow. For example as soon as you could do 100 push ups which gets you some muscle growth and immense pleasure body increases the bar and you will not get the same benefits and happiness with the 100 push up and you need to do more. That is also one of the reason people stop growing as they get frustrated. that also ensures you make every commitment to make progress and not get stuck with a results. So the most important aspect in life can be is the commitment to the process of growth by a habit. As no amount of motivation will be enough to do the same thing day in and day out and as soon as in one day your motivation is not enough you will stall the progress completely and even make the downward journey.

Commitment to growth and perfection is part of quite a eastern philosophy Yoga and recently adopted business philosophy like Kizen. Yoga literally means add. You just add to something which you have already and that itself is growth

Operating system of future

Operating system has been evolving leaps and bounds from DOS and unix where you write the actual command in my mind that is one dimensional to windows and mac where you use a pointer to interact with on a two dimensional. Then from the same two dimensional concept is expanded with interaction using fingers with capacitive touch screen in your smart phone.

Gen 1 : DOS or Unix  (One dimensional)
Gen 2 : Windows and Mac  ( Two dimensional with a Pinter which is one dimensional like mouse)
Gen 2.5 : Smart phone OS ( Two dimensional screen with multi point interaction device like finger and gesture support like swiping and zooming

In my mind the next generation OS has to be 3 dimensional  with virtual reality headsets as the screen (or holographic 3 D display   which is unlikely) interacting using full hand motion and all fingers wearing a specialized gloves with the input sensors build in. The input interacts with the headset wirelessly and user can do all sorts of motions using the full motion of hand. Like Hold , push , grab , traverse. It will also have some nice utilities in gaming with real life gaming like fighting.
