Life is about giving Joy a taking pain - 7 (Getting to the meaning of life)

You may have read about Abhraham Mashlows hierarchy of needs. Where he puts self actualization on the top of the pyramid.

You can read the wiki here if you have not read about it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow%27s_hierarchy_of_needs

Hierarchy

1.1 Physiological needs
1.2 Safety needs
1.3 Social belonging
1.4 Esteem
1.5 Self-actualization
1.6 Self-transcendence

Here is the individual needs from wiki.
Physical dimensionPhysiologic needsBreathing, circulation, temperature, intake of food and fluids, elimination of wastes, movement.
Environmental dimensionSafety and security needsHousing, community, climate.
Sociocultural dimensionLove and belonging needsRelationships with others, communications with others, support systems, being part of community, feeling loved by others.
Emotional dimensionSelf-esteem needsHope, joy, curiosity, happiness, accepting Self.
Intellectual and spiritual dimensionsSelf-actualization needsThinking, learning, decision making, values, beliefs, fulfillment, helping others.

Here he talks about top most need later as self transcendence is to do something which is beyond him self for a higher altruistic purpose. But in my view he is probably very close to the needs but what is the meaning. Where we get our meaning. Everyone does not have to be at the top of the pyramid which takes a long time to fulfill his needs. Its like we are always looking at the summit and forgetting about the journey and that will inevitably lead into something ignoring the journey for the ultimate summit. The meaning has to be part of the journey and not the summit as once you reach the summit you may ask why the heck I wanted to be here as I have to come down now.

So meaning is and has to be part of the journey. In my mind the meaning need not be complicated. It is as simple as "Freedom" and "Growth".. Since being a baby to the ripe old age the only thing that will give meaning is just freedom and Growth. As again looking deeper Freedom is the necessary condition for growth. We will dig deeper later into this.

Humans have a tendency to make things complicated as we build complexity on top of simple things as the new use cases and scenario shows up and the paradigms change and area of purview widens. Currently the virtue is to do something great for humanity and for earth but think just couple of hundred back it was to do something great for England or Spain in colonial areas. People may be conquesidors like Cortez were probably utmost satisfied or may have reached a self actualization status just expanding the colonies into Americas even at the expense of native Americans and no one would have even given a though about human values or even human liberty. We widen our scope and our brains as we realized new reality. So the meaning has to be something that is independent of the current accepted virtue. For example if science proved beyond a thread of doubt in future that global warming is good how can that be included into the meaning. Meaning has to remain the same irrespective or any virtue.
